1. Coarse-Grind Your Beans.Given the extended brew time, a coarse grind is fine enough to allow extraction, but not so fine that the cold brew emerges unpleasantly bitter. For cold brew, Abella estimates 1 cup grounds to 7 cups room temperature water.  2. Combine & Let Sit.Combine the ground coffee and water in a large sealable jar or French press and stir well. Let sit for anywhere between 12-24 hours before fine-straining or plunging. (Any longer, and you risk an overextracted, bitter brew; any shorter, and it will be weak and flavorless.) Drink straight, on ice, or with a splash of milk.

The value of a detox

The idea of cleansing has been around for thousands of years. For centuries, there was a lot of focus on ridding the body of impurities and sickness. Bloodletting, purging and fasting were all well-guarded treatments.  Today's wellness industry picked up on our desire to get rid of things. The word "detox" is a medical treatment for people with drug and alcohol addictions, yet the wellness industry uses it to make it sound like getting rid of all the dirty stuff. It sounds right to us because of our lack of understanding of how our liver works.

The idea of cleansing is age-old

The liver is about the size of an American football and weighs three pounds. It does many jobs to keep our bodies running, from helping the immune system to creating proteins for blood clotting.  The liver also deals with harmful substances, almost like a factory. It takes nutrients from the food and drinks we consume and breaks them down to be packaged in a usable way while removing the waste in the bile or via the kidneys, usually in the form of urine.

Understanding how the liver works

A popular cleanse is the cayenne pepper and lemon juice drink to "help your liver flush toxins."  You drink it, and it gets digested. Nutrients get absorbed in the blood and arrive at the liver. But the liver processes these nutrients the same as everything else. It packages what's useful and disseminates it throughout the body. What it can't use becomes waste. So there's nothing exceptional about mixing cayenne and lemon. It doesn't "clean the pipes." You might lose a few pounds at best because you aren't eating much. At worst, you could go into starvation mode.

To create a movement, you need 3 things:<ol><li>An expert or guide</li><li>A new opportunity</li><li>A future-based cause that unites the tribe</li></ol>The expert offers someone a new opportunity and then guides them to a result with a future-based cause.

Creating Your Movement

The 5 phases to become an expert:1. The Dreamer: Fascination + Mastery = Passion2. Reporter: learn everything about your topic from multiple points of view3. Framework Creator: identify patterns for success and build your own frameworks to help facilitate that success for others. Your product is likely just a piece of that framework4. Servant: test your framework on yourself first and then on others to perfect it and ensure it produces the same (or better) results5. Expert Guide: start leading others to their destination. Your results are your certification

Finding Your Voice

1. Create your framework hypothesis: make a bullet list that you would want to teach yourself before you began this journey. Organize it into an outline in an order that makes sense2. Test your framework hypothesis on yourself3. Give your framework a proprietary name: give it an easy name so people can remember the process by the name itself4. Create a description: “(Framework name) My X-step framework/system/process) for (result).”

How to Create Frameworks

People will do anything for those who encourage their dreams, justify their failures, allay their fears, confirm their suspicions, and help them throw rocks at their enemies.

The Three Core Markets or Desires

<ul><li>“The Diehard” is in love with the current product. Switching a Diehard to a new product requires a major identity shift.</li><li>“The Satisfied” uses the product they bought but isn’t in love with it. Switching the Satisfied to a new product requires a significant price or value benefit.</li><li>“The Frustrated” also use the product they bought, but they hate it. They’re actively seeking a better product that can fit their desires. Switching a Frustrated person to a new product requires finding them, gaining their trust, and giving them a small amount of education.</li></ul>

The 3 Core Groups of People in Each Marketplace

<ol><li>Rather than trying to improve on someone else’s product or service, create your own new opportunity to set yourself apart from the competition.</li><li>If you want people to buy, you have to show them how your product or service will increase their status.</li><li>When marketing, focus on as many status increases as you can that apply to your product or service.</li><li>Your goal is to load up the status-increase side and minimize the status-decrease side.</li></ol>Factors that elevate status:<ul><li>Appearance of intelligence</li><li>Appearance of wealth, power, or happiness</li><li>Physical appearance</li><li>Style</li></ul>

Creating Belief: The Epiphany Bridge

<ol><li>Oversimplification: speak at about a third-grade level</li><li>“Kinda like” bridge: if you need to teach a concept that’s past a third-grade level, say It’s kinda like…” and relate it to something customers already know</li><li>Making them feel: add feelings and emotions. Your customer needs to be in the same state that you were in when you received your aha moment</li></ol>

Effective Storytelling

The plot of every good story has three simple elements:<ul><li>Character</li><li>Desire</li><li>Conflict</li></ul>In order for the character to go on a journey to achieve his desire, he has to separate from his ordinary world.During this separation, it’s essential that the storyteller gets the audience to care about the hero. We do this through two things:<ol><li>Build rapport with the hero</li><li>Introduce the desire</li></ol>

The Hero’s Two Journeys

We build rapport with the hero by giving our hero at least two of the following things:A victim of some outside force, so we want to root for them<ul><li>In jeopardy, so we worry about them</li><li>Likable, so we want to be with them</li><li>Funny, so we connect with them</li><li>Powerful, so we want to be like them</li></ul>

Build Rapport with The Hero

Every story is about a journey either toward pleasure or away from pain.There are four core desires that drive most heroes:<ul><li>Win: the heart of someone they love, or fame, money, a competition, or prestige.</li><li>Retrieve: wants to obtain something and bring it back.</li><li>Escape: desires to get away from something that’s upsetting or causing pain.</li><li>Stop: bad things from happening.</li></ul>

Introduce the Desire

The villain’s role in the story helps us root for the hero to achieve his desire.The villain can be a person, or it could also be a false belief system. Our job is to vilify the belief system and defeat it so we can give our audience the truth.We are all rooting for the hero to accomplish this journey. While this journey is what drives the story forward, it’s the second journey that matters the most. In fact, in many stories, the hero never actually achieves their end desire.Or if they do, they give it up for the real transformational journey that they’ve been on throughout the story.

The Journey, the Conflict, and the Villain

<ul><li>During the journey, the hero meets a mentor or guide to help them along the way.</li><li>For our purposes with storytelling, the guide is the person who gives us the epiphany and the frameworks.</li><li>The journey then becomes the hero using the plans/framework they receive from the guide to defeat the villain and achieve their desire.</li></ul>

The Mentor/Expert/Guide

As the hero finally ends their journey, they’re transformed into a new person.Sometimes heroes get what they have been trying to achieve throughout the story, and oftentimes they don’t.This is the hero’s second journey. Who have they become and how have they evolved? This journey is the death of their old identity and their rebirth as a new person. This invisible journey is the real journey that our hero has been on the whole time.

The Achievement

Our only real goal in any of our marketing is to identify the false beliefs and false stories our customers are telling themselves—the ones that are keeping them from success—and to rewrite these stories inside their minds.The 4 core stories to break false beliefs:1. Your origin story with the new opportunity. This is the Epiphany Bridge story that tells how you discovered your new opportunity2. Vehicle framework story (how you learned or earned it).3. Internal beliefs story.4. External beliefs story.

The Four Core Stories

1. Chains of false belief. List all the false beliefs your customers might have related to your new opportunity, followed by the vehicle frameworks, their internal false beliefs, and their external false beliefs2. Experiences. Next to each false belief that you listed, write out what type of experience they may have gone through that gave them that false belief3. Stories. Next to each experience, write down the story that the experience created in their mind4. New Epiphany Bridges. Think about your own Epiphany Bridge story for each of these false beliefs

Building a story inventory

<ol><li>“I don’t believe this vehicle (your new opportunity) is the right vehicle for me.” What tangible thing can you create to help them change their belief? </li><li>“I believe this is the right vehicle for some people, but I don’t think that I could be successful with it.” They don’t believe in themselves. So you need to create something specific to help them overcome these false beliefs about themselves.</li><li>“I believe that I could have success, but I have an external force holding me back from success.” Create something to help eliminate or minimize each excuse.</li></ol>

The proponents of apple cider vinegar say that if you regularly use the vinegar "with the mother" - the cloudy combination of bacteria and yeast - you have a cure-all, whether it is a better skin or a more efficient metabolism. Some studies suggest a beneficial impact on glucose metabolism and weight loss, while other studies have found no effect compared to a placebo. Drinking ACV may do more harm than good. It's been linked to tooth enamel erosion, gastrointestinal issues such as reflux, and reduced potassium levels.

The practise of swishing oil around in your mouth for 15 - 20 minutes a day is an Ayurvedic folk remedy and said to be a miraculous way to cleanse the body of toxins. Advocates say that it can whiten teeth, freshen breath, prevent cavities, and cleanse your body of various toxins. However, the detoxifying effect is yet to be shown in clinical trials. There is some evidence that oil pulling can help with oral hygiene, but mainstream dentists don't see it as a good substitute for toothpaste. There are few documented harms that can come from this practice.

We naturally accept that curiosity in the workplace is a good thing. When people are interested in questioning and learning, they can discover better ways of doing things, invent new products, or find solutions to problems. However, the assumptions we make about what sparks curiosity is often incorrect. Therefore, rethinking them and encouraging some curiosity-related habits may help in developing this attribute.

Curiosity in the workplace

Curiosity can be considered in terms of variations that exist within individuals, moment to moment. These variations depend on the interest in and knowledge of a subject. Curiosity is unlikely when you know nothing about a topic or are very sure about a particular topic. However, you may be most curious about subjects that fall into a middle ground, where you know just enough to find it interesting, but not too much that it becomes boring.

Work in your curiosity zone

Your brain loves certainty. So, it may be more challenging to stay curious during times of stress or upheaval. If you are in a state of uncertainty, it is helpful to move into a self-management approach with two key questions:<ul><li>What can I control or influence?</li><li>What is not in my control or influence?</li></ul> The insight is that we control far less than we think and influence far more than we realise. When you stop trying to manage what you can't change, your anxiety will lessen, leaving more space for curiosity.

Manage uncertainty

In some cases, such as facing a collective problem or shared interest, you may be more curious when in a group. A group is curious when they face the same kind of problem or question. It creates a space for thinking in new ways.

Curiosity can be contagious under the right conditions. For example, when dancers make a mistake, instead of saying, "That's not the right way to do it," they would say, "that was interesting." Then they take a moment to play with it.

Embrace a collaborative approach

When you're in the middle of asking questions to satisfy your curiosity, you may be tempted to give advice instead of finding out why someone is asking.  When you engage with team members, instead of giving answers, ask, "what's the real challenge here for you?"

Avoid the "advice trap"

You can become more curious over time if you make a habit of exploring new subjects. You will become interested in other related things, understanding there's a relationship between what you know and could know.

Being curious can be an enormous asset, especially in the workplace.

How (and why) to train your brain to be more curious at work

Thinking that ethics is subjective creates bad arguments.
People use the word subjective - and objective - in ways that lead to confusion, misguided conclusions, and failed attempts to convince someone that ethics matters. Thinking carefully about distinctions and words and concepts enables us to see the world more clearly, enabling us to draw better conclusions and decisions.

Ethics is not subjective

An objective person will make a judgment independently of their personal interest. If they aren't distant from the judgment, they're subjective or biased. <ul><li>Being biased comes in degrees. Some may have too much interest in the issue.</li><li>The process by which one forms the judgment might be biased if one was inappropriately, unfairly, or irrationally influenced.</li></ul> If by saying "ethics is subjective", you mean everyone's ethical judgments are always biased, it may be false.

Objective vs subjective judgments

<ul><li>Some things, like the existence of earth or water, are objective because their existence does not depend on anyone's beliefs or judgments.</li><li>Other things depend for their existence on people's beliefs or judgments, such as the Supreme Court, art, or currency.</li></ul> Ethics is subjective if it depends on our beliefs. What is more controversial is to consider if the existence of ethics itself - what is right, wrong, good, bad, etc. depend on our beliefs.

Objective vs subjective existence

There are many issues one can debate. In some of those debates, the correct answer is objective and in other issues, it's subjective. Or put another way, some issues are factual and others issues are non-factual. When the issue being debated is factual, people can be wrong or incorrect. However, people can't be wrong when non-factual issues are debated, e.g. whether chocolate is better than vanilla.

Objective vs subjective issues

When people say, "how you see the world is subjective," they mean "how you see the world depends on your experiences." This statement is about the basis or cause of a judgement/belief and not about the judgment itself nor what the judgment is about. There are many other ways to have ethical beliefs:<ul><li>Some judgments/beliefs are grounded in testimony. E.g. if my friend tells me it's raining outside. I believe it even though I didn't experience it.</li><li>Other judgments/beliefs are grounded in other things, such as empirical evidence.</li></ul> Our experiences only inform our judgments, for better or worse.

Objective vs subjective ground for judgment

Consider this question: "How can I make ethically objective judgments when judgments are, by definition, subjective?" <ul><li>Does the statement mean judgments are biased? Yet, not all judgments are biased.</li><li>If "judgements are subjective" mean judgments are made by you, it does not mean that they are problematic or biased or unreliable.</li><li>If "judgments are subjective" means your judgments are not factual, it is a subjective statement, as the fact that you're making a judgment about what's right/wrong doesn't imply that you're judging a non-factual issue.</li></ul>

Many people have stories of achieving something great because someone had high expectations of them. The concept of the Pygmalion Effect is that expectations will influence performance and become a self-fulfilling prophecy.
The term "Pygmalion effect" comes from studies done in the 1960s on the effect of teacher's expectations on students' IQ. If teachers had high expectations, would pupils live up to them? Although the conclusion was that the effects were negligible, the idea is widespread.

The Pygmalion effect suggests that other people's expectations can influence how we think, how we act, how we view our capabilities, and what we achieve.
In Pygmalion in Management, J. Sterling Livingston writes that managers have the ability to lower or increase the performance of their subordinates by how they treat them. If their expectations are low, productivity is likely to suffer. If managers expectations are high, productivity is likely to be excellent.
